Movie Night: the appointment with the great outdoor cinema

An evening dedicated to outdoor sports, with the screening of the film “Energia Vitale – A visual journey between Milan and the Alps”, fresh from the Trento Film Festival, Alp&ism section, and “Cycle to Summit, a bike to ski adventure across Lofoten Islands”. Saturday 16th May, at 9 pm, in Riva del Garda, as part of the European Outdoor Week, at the Sala della Comunità (Viale Rosmini 5/b), the long-awaited Movie Night for film enthusiasts of mountaineering, biking, and skiing arrives, with the free screening of two films and the presence of some of the protagonists and producers of the short films.

“Energia Vitale” tells the story of the relationship between Milan and the mountains through the rediscovery of some iconic routes opened by Vitale Bramani, founder of Vibram, reinterpreted by contemporary climbers: Barbara Zangerl on the Pale di San Martino, Matteo Della Bordella in Valle Maira, and Pietro Vidi on Pizzo Badile. “Cycle to Summit” retraces the bike and ski adventures of Giulio Ballardini and his friends on the Lofoten Islands, in Norway.

A story of comings and goings, of people and places seeking each other. Through a chaptered narrative, the film explores the deep connection between the city and its mountains, intertwining different perspectives: athletes, poets, witnesses, and descendants who share a single vital bond.

The repetitions of some iconic routes opened by Vitale Bramani, mountaineer and founder of Vibram, come back to life thanks to contemporary climbers: Barbara Zangerl on the Pale di San Martino, Matteo della Bordella in the Valle Maira, and Pietro Vidi on the Pizzo Badile. These feats mark the meeting between today’s mountaineering and that of a century ago.

The story is enriched by the voice of Colomba Fasana, who emotionally recalls Bramani’s figure, and the poems of Antonia Pozzi, in which the silent beauty of the mountains dialogues with the vibrant energy of the city. Closing the circle is Matteo Bramani, Vitale’s great-grandson, who sets off from the Duomo in Milan to reach the Grignetta with guide Paolo Marazzi, by train and bicycle, to face the Via degli Accademici opened in 1924.

With over 260 km of fjords, the Lofoten Islands are the favorite archipelago of ski mountaineering enthusiasts. In the winter of 2025, Giulio, Francesco, and Alessandro set off for the extreme north paradise to chase the northern lights and be the first to leave their mark on the canals that offer endless paths to explore. To travel independently from Svolvaer to Å, the three companions can rely on a cargo bike, dozens of kilos of equipment each, and their survival instinct.

Their eight-day, 130 km adventure quickly turns into a journey to test their limits in extreme conditions and discover the essence of mutual support in difficult times. How far can we push ourselves to experience winter to the fullest?
