Road to ORBDAYS: offsetting CO₂ emissions

Road to ORBDAYS: offsetting CO₂ emissions

Reducing the environmental impact of the ORBDAYS also involves offsetting CO₂ emissions. Thanks to the collaboration with Green Media Lab and ClimatePartner, the organization is committed to measuring, reducing, and offsetting the emissions generated during the event, in line with an increasingly conscious and responsible approach.

Our Goal

To eliminate completely the environmental impact of an event is a complex challenge, but adopting a conscious and responsible approach is an essential step. Green Media Lab plays a key role in the design and planning of the events, focusing on reducing avoidable emissions and collecting data through interviews with participants and exhibitors in order to more accurately estimate the environmental impact of the fair.

The information considered for estimating emissions includes:

  • point of departure of participants and exhibitors;
  • mode of transportation used;
  • number of people traveling together;
  • duration of participation;
  • type of accommodation chosen;
  • energy, water, and material consumption of the exhibition stands;
  • waste generated during the event.

Once this analysis was completed, the offsetting process is entrusted to ClimatePartner, which ensured the purchase of certified carbon credits. Among the various projects proposed, MagNet chose to support a wind energy initiative in Yagdir, India. This project, selected from the options offered by ClimatePartner, supports the transition to clean energy sources and contributes to the reduction of global greenhouse gas emissions. In 2022, thanks to this collaboration, 2,500 tonnes of CO₂eq were purchased – an amount that allowed the emissions generated by MagNet’s events in recent years to be neutralized.

Offsetting emissions is not the only goal: the main focus remains reducing environmental impact at the source, by implementing concrete measures to

limit avoidable emissions. This is part of a broader journey undertaken by MagNet, which, as a Benefit Corporation and B Corp, aims to balance profit with a positive impact on society and the environment.
